Helping the incarcerated tell their story & being a black man in America | LeRon Barton
Description
In this episode, I'm joined by LeRon Barton who is helping the incarcerated tell their story & shares his struggles of being a black man in America. From overcoming stuttering early on in life to mounting several TEDx talks stages, he shares how he overcame his speech impediment and now a well respected public speaker. Getting arrested a few times as a teenager due to drug and alcohol possession & becoming an inmate at the county jail (even though now clean for over 20 years), he developed a desire to help people who are trapped in the prison system. Now working in Tech, he is using his platform to tell his own personal story and help incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people tell their stories and give them another chance at a normal life. With black men 5X more likely to get incarcerated than their counterparts, he is helping highlight and shed more light into this inequality and advocate a need for a change in the American prison system. He also talked about his experience navigating corporate America as a black man. He gives useful advice on how to navigate life in the corporate world as a black person to be able to make impact.
